European Elections

In the election for the European Parliament on June 4, the four seats for the region of Wales were won (figures are thousands of votes) by the Conservatives (145), Labour (133), Plaid Cymru (127), and U.K.I.P. (88). The  Christian Party of Wales (13), came ahead of the Socialist Labour Party (12), No2EU (9), and the Jury Party (4), but was behind the Liberal Democrats (73), the Green Party (38) and the BNP(37). The Christian Party vote, 1.90%, was higher, perhaps surprisingly, than in Scotland, (1.52%), but lower than in London (2.93%).

Across the UK mainland, the Christian Party were delighted to gain ¼ million votes. The Christian Party in Wales and the Christian Party/Christian People’s Alliance in England and Scotland had 69 candidates across every region of the UK (except for NI). Here in Wales, the Christian Party had a 45% increase of votes since the Assembly elections in 2007 gaining over 13,000+ votes. Thank you – all of you. Every vote matters.

As a result of these elections, the party generated a very encouraging level of new enquiries for information, leaflets, and membership forms. It is the start of really building the profile of the party primarily amongst the Christian community and then generally across the nation. We must ensure that all Christians have heard about us and know what we are standing for before the next general election. Jeff Green the leader of the party was in a buoyant mood and feels the team have done an excellent job in a very short space of time to really build support for the European Elections. “The party itself is only two years old, so we’re really at the beginning of the journey. We are now the 10th largest political party in the UK - great foundation to build on. We have seen areas across Wales where it’s clear that where there was the unity of people working together, God has clearly blessed the work. We made some excellent new contacts, the email and address list is continuing to build and we are beginning to gain support from organisations who are encouraging voters to vote for a Christian Party including SPUC (Society for Protection of Unborn Child) and CCFON (Christian Concern for our Nation)

The party had a golden opportunity to meet many church groups visiting the Logos Hope ship in Cardiff in the week prior to the elections and the team would like to thank everyone for the time and effort given to hand out leaflets, bookmarks and share the news about what is happening within Wales.

We encourage you to find out more information about what the party is standing for. If you have issues you feel need to be addressed, please contact the office and let us know. We need to unite under the banner of the Lord Jesus Christ and raise His name high in the nation again. We are representing Christians across Wales across all denominations and those who profess to hold Christian values. If you have concerns about what you are seeing in this nation, please get in touch. Let’s work together to turn our nation back to God.
